Love Letter - We can ALL do an Iron Man

This past weekend our very own Seth completed an Iron Man. It is an incredible accomplishment both mentally and physically. An Iron Man consist of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and a 26.2 mile run. The run is exactly a marathon and you do it directly after swimming and biking. It will test anyone and Seth just proved that we can all pass it.

This was Seth’s first Iron Man and it was also his first time running an actual marathon. That is why what he accomplished this past weekend is so remarkable. To make it even more unreal, he signed up for the Iron Man just 3 months ago which means he only had 3 months to prepare for it. To prepare during those 3 months he did two a days. Came to CrossFit at 5am and then focused on either running, swimming or biking. He had never swam for that long and had to learn how to ride the style of bike he used for the Iron Man. It was truly an uphill battle but he did it.

About 10 minutes after finishing his Iron Man, we talked on the phone for 20 minutes and one of the topics we discussed was his preparation for the event. During that time we talked about how CrossFit played a tremendous role in accomplishing this goal of his. That is all Seth has done the last 5-6 years very consistently. He has made CrossFit his main training focus and at times would try other things out but still kept CrossFit as primary.

What you do at our gym is allowing you to do anything in this world. There is no other training methodology that rivals CrossFit when it comes to the 10 components of fitness. CrossFit focuses on all 10 components which means its consistently training you to become fitter and healthier everyday. But the best adaptation that CrossFit presents is what the creator Greg Glassman said “between the ears”. Your mindset.

Seth has adapted tremendously, both mentally and physically, which led him to believe he can accomplish an Iron Man. He receives the exact same training we all do. We have adapted or are adapting the same way as he did. We are all capable of accomplishing an Iron Man if we wanted to do one. We are all capable of accomplishing anything in this world.

Seth, again, congratulations and thank you for proving to us what we are capable of.

Respectfully,

Josh
