Coaching Moment: Things You May Take for Granted

The ability to put shampoo in your head and scrub it. 

This is something we do on the daily and it requires no thought. Until it does. 

I was having a conversation with my mom early last week and she mentioned to me how she had to make an effort to put her arms above her head to put shampoo in her hair and that her shoulders got tired after scrubbing it. 

That is flexibility and strength reducing. That is functionality reducing. 

So we made a plan and she is coming to the gym for the next 6 weeks for a minimum of 3x. I am then going to provide her home workouts to do at home 1-2x a week at the same time. 

The reality of life is that none of us are invincible. If we don't focus on ourself and maintain our functionality, we will end up losing it. The simple things in life such as putting shampoo in our head will start to become a challenging task. 

Don't wait until the day that putting your arms above your head becomes difficult or getting up from your bed or walking up the stairs or picking up your shoes. 

Continue to preserve your functionality by maintaining your consistency at the gym.
