Because the workout is not about you.
Every Memorial Day weekend, you can find most CrossFit gyms doing the famous hero workout "Murph" on Saturday or Monday.
This has become a tradition in the CrossFit community. I say most CrossFit gyms because other gyms choose to do a different hero workout. But all CrossFit gyms know that this weekend is about honoring all of our fallen heroes.
We honor them by challenging ourselves and getting out of our comfort zone. We honor them by going through the "suck''. We honor them by giving our very best effort. We honor them by maintaining our best attitude and not complaining. We honor them by finishing regardless how much it may hurt. We honor them by showing up when we know we don't want to. But the best way to honor them is to do these things on a daily basis not just on Memorial Day weekend.
We do this because heroes like Lt. Michael "Murph" Murphy paid the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. Freedom is not free at all and he paid for our freedom with his life. The men and women who sacrificed it all, should be honored by all of us.
We get to look forward to our weekends and trips and vacations and get togethers and workouts and simply live our life because of these men and women. The least we can do is give them an hour or two of our Saturday morning to say THANK YOU.
I know many of our members are traveling this weekend. I challenge you to drop into a CrossFit gym on Saturday or Monday to do the workout "Murph" or another hero workout with a different CrossFit gym.
You'll be glad you did.
