Lack of Energy and Motivation: How to Get Yourself Moving Again

One of the biggest pain points people face when trying to get in shape is not knowing what workout to do. It is not necessarily a lack of information, either. Most people already know that exercise is important. They know they should eat better, get enough sleep, and move their bodies consistently.

The real problem is often much simpler: they do not have the energy or motivation to actually do it.

You wake up tired. You have a demanding job. Your kids need your attention. Your schedule is packed. By the time you finally have a little free time, working out feels like one more responsibility instead of something you want to do. So you tell yourself you will work out tomorrow.

Then tomorrow comes, and you feel the same way.

This cycle can continue for weeks, months, or even years.

The frustrating part is that lack of energy can become both the reason you do not exercise and the result of not exercising. When you stop moving consistently, your fitness decreases, daily activity becomes more difficult, and your body can begin to feel even more sluggish. Your confidence drops, your routine disappears, and getting started becomes harder.

At CrossFit Be Someone, we understand that motivation is not something you can simply wait around for. One of the most important things we can do as coaches is help people create an environment and routine that makes consistency easier.

You do not need to feel motivated every day. You need a system that helps you show up even on the days when motivation is low.

Why Low Energy Keeps You From Working Out

When you are constantly tired, exercise can feel like a major commitment. The idea of driving to the gym, figuring out what to do, completing a workout, and then getting on with the rest of your day can feel overwhelming.

This is especially true if you are working out on your own.

There is no coach expecting you. There is no class starting at a specific time. There is no one asking where you have been. You can always tell yourself you will go later.

And later often turns into tomorrow.

This is one reason having structure and accountability can make such a significant difference. You do not have to wake up every morning and negotiate with yourself about whether you are going to exercise. You establish the habit, put it on your calendar, and show up.

Once you start moving consistently, something interesting happens. Exercise itself can become a source of energy rather than something that constantly requires energy you do not feel like you have.

How CrossFit Be Someone Can Help

At CrossFit Be Someone, our goal is not simply to give you a workout. We coach you through the process of becoming someone who consistently takes care of their health.

Our coaches are there to help you understand the movements, scale workouts appropriately, develop confidence, and make sure you are getting the intended stimulus from your training. You do not have to walk through the doors already fit, strong, or experienced.

You simply have to be willing to start.

Our group classes provide structure. You know when class starts, you have a coach leading you through the hour, and you have other people around you working toward their own goals. That combination of coaching, community, accountability, and consistency can remove many of the barriers that keep people from exercising.

Here are five things you can start doing today.

1. Stop Waiting to Feel Motivated

Motivation is unreliable.

If you only exercise when you feel motivated, your workout schedule will always be inconsistent. Instead, make exercise a commitment. Put your workouts on your calendar the same way you would schedule an important meeting.

Your goal should not be to feel excited about every workout. Your goal should be to show up.

Consistency creates momentum, and momentum often creates motivation.

2. Start Smaller Than You Think You Need To

When you are already exhausted, telling yourself that you need to exercise six days a week for an hour can make getting started feel impossible.

Start with something manageable.

Three consistent workouts every week are better than an ambitious plan you abandon after two weeks. Once that routine becomes normal, you can build from there.

The goal is to create a habit you can maintain when life gets busy.

3. Put Your Workouts on a Schedule

Do not leave your workouts to chance.

Choose the days and times that realistically fit your life. Treat those appointments as commitments rather than optional activities.

At CrossFit Be Someone, our scheduled classes provide exactly this type of structure. You know when you are supposed to be there, and your coach and fellow athletes become part of the accountability that helps you follow through.

4. Find People Who Expect You to Show Up

Accountability matters.

When nobody knows whether you worked out, it is easy to skip. When coaches and friends know you are supposed to be there, showing up becomes easier.

More importantly, surrounding yourself with people who prioritize their health can influence your own behavior. You begin to see exercise as something normal and sustainable rather than something you have to force yourself to do.

Community is a powerful part of fitness.

5. Focus on the Long Game

Your goal should not be to become fit as quickly as possible.

Your goal should be to become the kind of person who takes care of their health for the rest of their life.

There will be stressful weeks. There will be nights when you sleep poorly. There will be vacations, work deadlines, family responsibilities, and days when you simply do not feel like working out.

That is normal.

The answer is not to quit. It is to return to your routine.

Fitness is built through thousands of small decisions repeated over time. You do not need to be perfect. You need to be consistent enough for those decisions to compound.

You Do Not Have to Do This Alone

If lack of energy or motivation has kept you from exercising consistently, you are not the only one.

And you do not have to solve it by yourself.
